Committees

The NALSAP Board determines which committees will be needed to meet goals for the year and to support the organization’s strategic plan. Although there are some standing committees, many committees are formed to accomplish a specific task, and, once that task is completed, the committee is disbanded. Consequently, there may be more committees one year than there are the next, and the range of opportunities varies accordingly. The NALSAP President determines the specific charges and goals for each committee, and selects committee members from the pool of volunteers. Typically, two calls for NALSAP committee volunteers go out each year: one in the fall and one in the spring. Committee members are appointed for a one-year term.

Standing Committees

Macey Edmondson, President-Elect
Adrienne Packard, Secretary
Emily Scivoletto, Treasurer
Johnny Pryor, Immediate Past President

The five officers serve as the members of the Executive Committee. Except for the power to amend the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, the Executive Committee shall have all the powers and authority of the Board of Directors in the intervals between meetings of the Board of Directors.

The Board must approve the budget, and all expenditures must be within budget. Any major change in the budget must be approved by the Board. Annual reports are required to be submitted to the Board showing income, expenditures, and pending income.

The Immediate Past President serves as chair of the Nominating Committee, and selects at least two members of the Board of Directors and at least two regular members to serve on the committee. This committee prepares a slate of officers (President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer) and regional representatives to fill terms which are expiring, and coordinates the voting process prior to the annual NALSAP Conference in June.

The inaugural Awards and Recognition Committee is currently working on developing a transparent and objective framework through which NALSAP can meaningfully recognize members and allies who have made outstanding contributions to the field. Once the framework is developed, this committee will promote the NALSAP awards and opportunities for recognition to members, solicit and review nominations, and select award recipients. Given that law school student affairs spans a wide variety of areas, it is desirable that this committee has a professionally diverse membership. Those currently serving on this committee are not eligible to receive NALSAP awards.

Mentorship Committee
Lisa Ferreira (co-chair), Member, Thomas Jefferson School of Law
Melissa Berry (co-chair), Member, University of Washington School of Law
Megan Bess, Member, Loyola University Chicago School of Law

Composed of both experienced law school student affairs professionals and those newer to the profession, this committee is tasked with expanding on the pilot mentorship program launched at the 2018 NALSAP Conference and fostering meaningful and sustained professional relationships driven by the needs of NALSAP members.

Other Committees and Appointments

Bylaws Committee
Johnny Pryor (chair), Immediate Past President
Rebekah Grodsky, President
Alexis Martinez, Member, Georgia State University College of Law
Erin Lee Schneider, Member, Drake Law School

As NALSAP has grown, some areas of its bylaws no longer meet its needs. This committee will critically review the existing NALSAP bylaws and make recommendations regarding amendments. Those recommendations will be reviewed by the Board at its Spring Board Meeting and voted on by Members during the Business Meeting at the 2019 NALSAP Conference in Washington D.C.
